Idealizar situaciones o personas es algo que ocurre muy a menudo, sobre todo cuando hemos sufrido una separación o distanciamiento con la persona.
Idealizar es el proceso por el cual generamos una imagen de la situación o persona más cerca de nuestro propio ideal (como nos gustaría que fuese) distorsionando en muchas ocasiones lo que realmente era. En este proceso se tiende a magnificar los aspectos positivos como las características y cualidades, por ejemplo:
Si nos referimos a una persona podemos tender a imaginárnosla como quien nos ha tratado mejor, con quien disfrutábamos siempre, quien nos comprendía en totalidad, con quien podíamos ser cien por cien naturales, la persona más guapa del mundo, etc.
Si nos referimos a una situación podríamos pensar que fue un momento totalmente perfecto, que no hubo nada negativo, que fue lo que siempre soñamos o incluso que fue el mejor momento de nuestras vidas.
Esta idealización nos hace creer que no hubo elementos negativos en la relación o situación ya que sobrevaloramos los positivos, restándole así importancia a todo lo demás. Con lo cual, si bien nuestra visión de las experiencias evidentemente es subjetiva, cuando idealizamos no solo se vuelve subjetiva sino irreal.
La idealización sucede mayormente cuando ha pasado tiempo medianamente prolongado de una ruptura o separación, en el que ha pasado el tiempo suficiente para sanar heridas e incluso, si hemos retomado la comunicación con la persona, incluso puede provocar que olvidemos por completo cosas negativas que nos haya hecho, discusiones, desencuentros y sufrimiento en general.
Este proceso suele ocurrir también en situaciones de pérdida y duelo. Donde se tiende a venerar y crear una imagen que en ocasiones puede distar mucho de la real o incluso ser opuesta. Esta idealización en situaciones de pérdida nos puede ayudar a mitigar sentimientos como la culpa o la vergüenza que en ocasiones se puede generar por la falta de tristeza que socialmente se espera que tengamos tras una muerte Idealizando a esa persona, buscamos también darnos motivos por los cuales lamentar su partida y así sentirnos que respondemos emocionalmente acorde a lo que se espera o se cree que se debe estar.
